Councilmember Adrin Nazarian, seconded by Councilmember Traci Park, introduced this motion in December 2025 to establish three interconnected initiatives aimed at reinforcing Los Angeles' identity as the historic home of film and television production. The motion directs city departments to develop and launch a Citywide Film Location Fan Tour with both digital and in-person components, create a Made In LA branding initiative, and publish a Film Business Directory listing local production companies, vendors, and film-adjacent businesses. The motion was adopted by Council 14-0-1 on March 4, 2026, after clearing the Economic Development and Jobs Committee with amendments in February 2026. Four neighborhood councils submitted Community Impact Statements during the process: NoHo, Los Feliz, Greater Wilshire, and Studio City. The County Film Office has received seed funding for a public education campaign about the economic value of filming, in which the City and FilmLA are participating. On the Film Business Directory, both FilmLA and the Economic and Workforce Development Department expressed reservations. They note that well-established private industry directories such as LA411, Creative Handbook, and ProductionHUB already serve this function, and that building and maintaining a new city-run directory would add costs without clear added value. They recommend assessing existing resources before proceeding. The file remains open and active in the Ad Hoc Committee as departments work through these resource and implementation questions.
