Full summary
This resolution, introduced by Councilmember Marqueece Harris-Dawson and seconded by Imelda Padilla, bans oversized vehicles from parking on roughly two dozen street segments across South Los Angeles, all within Council District 8. Under the city's oversize vehicle parking ordinance, any vehicle longer than 22 feet or taller than seven feet is prohibited from stopping on the designated streets at any hour of the day or night. The restrictions cover a wide geographic spread across CD 8. Near the 60s corridor, they apply to the north side of West 62nd Street between Harvard Boulevard and South Halldale Avenue, the east side of Harvard Boulevard between West 61st and 62nd Streets, both sides of West 61st Street between Harvard Boulevard and South Halldale Avenue, and the west side of South Halldale Avenue between West 61st and 62nd Streets. A separate cluster of restrictions covers South Hoover Street between West 70th and 71st Streets, along with the surrounding block formed by West 71st Street, West 70th Street, and South Menlo Avenue. Additional segments include South Western Avenue between West 39th Place and Browning Boulevard, West 39th Place between South Western Avenue and South Harvard Boulevard, South Budlong Avenue and West 27th Street near the 27th Street intersection, South St. Andrews Place between West Manchester Avenue and West 89th Street, several streets in the 68th-71st Street range east of Vermont Avenue, South Van Ness Avenue and South Gramercy Place in two separate stretches, West 54th Street between South Gramercy Place and Ruthelen Street, Avalon Boulevard between East Century Boulevard and East 98th Street, South Grand Avenue between West 87th and 95th Streets, and Vermont Avenue between West Gage Avenue and West Florence Avenue. The resolution directs the Department of Transportation to post tow-away, no-parking signs at all listed locations upon adoption, and authorizes DOT to make technical corrections to implement the restrictions as intended. No fiscal impact analysis was completed by the City Administrative Officer or Chief Legislative Analyst, and no community impact statements were submitted. The Transportation Committee approved the resolution on April 22, 2026, with members Hutt, Padilla, and Nazarian voting yes and members Park and Hernandez absent. The full Council adopted it on May 1 by a vote of 11-1-3, subject to reconsideration under Council Rule 51. Council action became final on May 5, closing the reconsideration window. The file is closed and the restrictions are in effect.
