Full summary
Mayor Karen Bass has nominated Thien Ho for reappointment to the Board of Cultural Affairs Commissioners for a term running through June 30, 2031. Ho's previous term expired on June 30, 2026. The Mayor certified that Ho is qualified by training and experience, and that the appointment is made solely in the interest of the City. Ho is an East Los Angeles resident and corporate communications executive with over two decades of experience in public relations, crisis communications, and public affairs. She most recently served as Vice President of Global Corporate Communications and Social Impact at Herbalife, and has previously held senior communications roles at Sony Pictures Entertainment, The Wonderful Company, Dine Brands Global, and Panda Restaurant Group. She holds degrees in Print Journalism and International Relations from USC. The commission appointment form lists her current occupation as self-employed through Libre Communications. The seven-member Board of Cultural Affairs Commissioners currently includes representatives from across the city's area planning commissions, with Ho representing the Central area under Council District 1. Her reappointment would maintain that representation on a board whose other members have terms running through 2027 to 2030. The nomination was referred to the Arts, Parks, Libraries, and Community Enrichment Committee the day after it was submitted. Before the Council can act, Ho must complete ethics and background clearance steps, including filing a Statement of Economic Interests and an ethics clearance form with the City Ethics Commission. She may also be asked to meet with her local Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez and committee chair Ysabel J. Jurado ahead of a committee hearing. The file remains pending in committee as of August 5, 2026.
